Although the sun is over 150 million kilometers away, it is still incredibly powerful. Just the small amount that hits the Earth is enough to meet all power needs many times over. Interested in solar power? Not sure what equipment or technology is available in the current day and age? Read on to find out more…

Helping the Earth
For thousands of years the human race has been using the sun for such things as drying clothes and growing food, however, only recently have we been able to use the sun to generate power that we can convert into electricity for use on whatever we like. There are 3 main ways that we are utilising the sun’s immense energy:

  1. Solar Water Heating – solar water heating is used to heat water on the roof of your home. Less gas and electricity is used to heat the water in your home, as water is pumped through special pipes in the solar panel. These pipes are painted black due to the fact black attracts the sun more than any other colour/shade. Solar water heating is perfect in countries such as USA and Australia; however, with technological advances it is quickly becoming useful in less sunny countries such as the UK.
  2. Solar cells – these are the same solar cells that are found in some calculators. Solar cells are perfect in sunny climates as they can be used to power household necessities like light bulbs.
  3. Solar furnaces – these use mirrors to concentrate the sun’s energy into a very small space. Solar cookers are found across the world and are used to cook food and drinks such as tea and coffee, although they aren’t very time efficient.

There are many advantages to using solar energy to create electricity – some are listed below:

  • It’s free and it doesn’t require fuel or produce waste/pollution.
  • If you live in a location that can’t be accessed easily then solar power is a vital new breakthrough in technology due to the fact electricity cannot easily be supplied to certain areas of the world.
  • Excellent for lower home energy bills when used to power low-energy equipment such as garden lights and battery chargers.

In the current economic climate there has never been a more important time to try and reduce energy costs. Whilst it’s true that the initial cost of solar equipment is quite high, in the long-run you can save a lot of money on your heating bills. A renewable energy source such as solar power is a great way to lower energy bills such as electricity and an excellent way to help protect the environment.

The Environment
The environment is constantly in the news – with global warming becoming the new phrase on everybody’s lips it’s even more important to show that you are doing your bit to protect Mother Earth. If saving money and saving the planet interests you then consider investing in equipment that utilises the power of the sun.

The Key of my mind...

I quit my job eight months ago and I must confess that I do not regret it. A steady job and a steady income is half the way to have a great life but the other half is also important.

On the second half there is a very important thing: Mental Health and that is what I was losing. According to Wikipedia:

Mental health is a term used to describe either a level of cognitive or emotional well-being or an absence of a mental disorder. From perspectives of the discipline of positive psychology or holism mental health may include an individual’s ability to enjoy life and procure a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. Mental health is an expression of our emotions and signifies a successful adaptation to a range of demands.

Emotional well-being, ability to enjoy life and family and psychological resilience were some of the things I had lost. The question that popped up several times in my mind was: How to have a better life? The answer was something I knew for a long time: quit my job.

Working in a place where you are not respected, were you are verbally assaulted everyday, humiliated and underestimated really messes up with your mind, whether you want or not. Sometimes I just wished I had Martial arts training to punch my bosses. I know some people that have sales jobs and feel frustrated. They approach some clients that are not interested on the product and they are rudely treated but working 8 hours a day in a place where you constantly have that feeling is really complicated.

These last months I haven’t accomplish a lot online but I’m really willing to get a work I can do from home. I don’t see myself back in an office. I might have the greatest bosses in the future but I’m really scared that what happened on my previous workplace will happen again. I really don’t want the same feeling again, I don’t want to think about Martial arts DVD‘s again, ever.

I might not have a steady job, I might not have a steady income, I might be in a difficult financial situation but I am psychologically resilient and I am having a Better Life.

Healthy eating pyramid similar to that of the ...

Image via Wikipedia

If you’re trying to lose weight or simply wanting to eat better for your health, there’s no shortage of information that you can turn to for help. You do have to be careful when looking for advice on maintaining a healthy diet. There are tons of fad diets and crazy eating plans that promise to help you lose 20 pounds in a week. If you ask any medical or weight loss expert, they will tell you to stay far away from those crazy plans. Some of these fad diets may work for a few weeks, but they end up doing more harm than good in the long run.

Eat for Health and Weight Loss Will Follow
Many people begin a diet simply to lose weight. While it is important to maintain a healthy weight, putting your weight before your overall health can cause you to make some poor dietary choices. A lot of people will drastically cut back on calories, or cut out a particular part of their diet, like carbohydrates, completely in the quest to lose pounds. Again, these methods can work in the short-term, but you will not be very health when all is said and done. Instead of focusing solely on weight loss, take a balanced approach to healthy eating and some pretty incredible weight loss will usually follow.

Quick Tips for Health Eating
Instead of bogging you down with the science of dozens of nutrients and why they make sense for your diet, here are some quick tips that should be a part of every healthy eating plan.

• Add more fiber to your diet. The average American has terrible digestive problems going on that they may not know about for years to come. The culprit behind these digestive disorders, like diverticulosis and other ailments, is low fiber diets. Simply adding more fiber to your diet will do wonders for your overall health and will help you to lose weight too.

• Drink more water. Staying hydrated is key to staying healthy. Sip water constantly throughout the day. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. If you start to take in lots of healthy water on a regular basis, your health will improve, you’ll feel better, and you will probably lose a few unwanted pounds in the process.

• Graze, don’t gorge. The smart approach to eating healthy is to break up your meals into 4 – 6 smaller meals instead of 3 larger meals (and a couple of large snacks). If you graze by eating smaller, nutrient-dense meals, you will find it much easier to eat healthy foods and to avoid weight gain. You’ll also speed up your metabolism which will help you lose body fat.

Add these three simple tips to your daily eating plan and you will begin to feel better and drop some pounds. Remember to exercise in conjunction with a healthy diet to get the most out of your new eating plans. A few days of exercise each week, coupled with a smart diet will help you look and feel your best for years to come.

I hate when I have to spend money out of my established budget. Two weeks ago it was my desktop screen, today it was the kitchen faucet.

Let’s face it, that faucet is the original one, meaning it has 10 years and during those years we never had problems with it. A few weeks ago it started dripping water each time we used it and now it was already pouring water.

My husband just left to go looking for some Moen kitchen faucets at a local store. I hope it’s not very expensive, we have some big expenses in the next couple of weeks.

One of the things I would like to have on my backyard is a greenhouse. Having plants and vegetables all over the year would be great. With a greenhouse, plants can grow larger and quicker than the ones with common gardening.

Greenhouses help gardeners to grow plants no matter the weather or season of the year. Usually Greenhouses have heating and humidifying systems that help the life plant process. Plants need sunlight and greenhouses should have the ability to provide the necessary solar radiation, not too much, not too less.

Greenhouse kits usually come with all the systems ready to be installed however some gardeners prefer to take of the greenhouse by themselves. They provide water manually as well as electricity when needed. It’s a hobby that keeps gardeners entertained. If possible, install a rainwater system to take advantage of the rain water.

Next to the greenhouse we can put a metal building structure to store the tool used in the greenhouse gardening. If the gardener prefers and has space, he can put a bench inside the greenhouse and store the tools there.

Do you have a greenhouse? How is it installed?
