One of my goals for 2011 when it comes to financial issues is to keep my bank account above 0 and my credit card on 0.

I’ve been trying to use the credit card to take advantage of the bonus I get (1% in each transaction), but I always end up with a huge account to pay because I wait 2 or 3 weeks to see how much I owe. I guess buying and paying on the spot really is the best option to keep the bank and credit card accounts tidy.

Using payday advances are also something I really want to avoid. Having the extra money available on the bank account really is a good thing but we end up losing track of the money and when we notice, he account is below 0 because we are already using the payday advance money.

I really want to make 2011 a less stressful year regarding money. I’m tired of spending in advance and paying later. Money end up disappearing and sometimes even missing. I would like to put some money aside but…I will be really happy if I’m able to get the accounts above 0 amount.

Unfinished wood products are excellent when we want to make our own creations specially when speaking of colors and details. We can finish them to combine with other pieces we have in the house and, when it is kid’s related, they can help out with their personal touch.

Unfinished furniture is cheaper than finished one. Although some money has to be spent to give the final touch, the final object will always be cheaper that when buying a finished one.

We can find all kind of unfinished wood products: chairs, coffee boxes, tea boxes, tables, napkins holders, jewelry box, etc. etc. Some of them need some real work done so it would be advised to have an annular cutter or a metal hole saw nearby. Some furniture needs to be assembled, other have some small defects that need to be minimized. Painting and final finishing are usually needed.

There are some stores that only sell unfinished furniture and there are places like Amish communities or rehab centers that have amazing unfinished furniture waiting to be bought. Whether it is for the bedroom, living room or outdoors it is excellent to be able to get personalizes items that will match the rest of the decoration we already have.

Buying unfinished furniture is also a great way to reuse items that might end up in the garbage because they are not perfect or they are no longer needed. Perfect to save some money and redecorate the house.

At this time of the year people are busy buying gifts for their families and special ones. Supermarkets and shopping malls are crowded with buyers. Choosing Christmas gifts can be a real pain, especially when we don’t have a clue of what to give.

Going green doesn’t only mean to conduct practices that are healthy for our environment and make the atmosphere around us all green. It has also something to do with saving money and living in a relaxed spot that would result to live in happiness without causing any harm to others. Many people think that if they produce less waste a day, they will contribute to become friends to the environment. I dare say that they are wrong. They have also to keep themselves healthy, relaxed and not spending. I want to say they have to buy what is necessary and decrease things that they use to save some money. Here are some practices which may help:

• You can save money if you save energy. You can do so by doing many things. For instance, you can wash your clothes with cold water when it is possible or install compact fluorescent bulbs instead of the old ones.
• Less gas surely mean more money. Some people are obsessed by driving cars. They use cars even in short distances. So, why do not walk or bike to work? This will save gas and parking costs.
• You can spend your holiday in the wonderful and relaxing Cape Portfolios villas. It is a wonderful place to regain energy. However, you can go to spend some days in the country side or in a nearby town. There are also some beaches that will not cost you too much to spend a week or so.
• Eat smart to save money. If you like eating meat. Plan to eat fish or chicken two days a week. Moreover, eating meat a lot will result in health problems that will urge you to spend money on medicines and doctors.
• Some items may be borrowed instead of bought. You can for example borrow books from libraries instead of buying them to read once.

These practice are so easy to do and the result will be awesome; a healthy environment, additional money and a good health. We will live lightly in this earth and save money at the same time. Our budget is our personal interest, but our environment should be our main concern. Our lives are worth nothing in a polluted environment!

I hate when I have to spend money out of my established budget. Two weeks ago it was my desktop screen, today it was the kitchen faucet.

Let’s face it, that faucet is the original one, meaning it has 10 years and during those years we never had problems with it. A few weeks ago it started dripping water each time we used it and now it was already pouring water.

My husband just left to go looking for some Moen kitchen faucets at a local store. I hope it’s not very expensive, we have some big expenses in the next couple of weeks.

Going Green is a major objective in my life and each time I buy something I think twice.

Our old VGA desktop screen collapsed. After months of having the screen changing color from yellow to green to blue, also the screen area started to shrink it finally stopped working and we had to decide: leave the desktop unused or spend money we don’t have on another screen.

After a few days deliberating we decided that it was better to buy a new screen and give some use to the computer. My first concern was to find a eco-friendly screen and we did. We gave €10 more to buy a 19″ LCD screen with a low energy consumption and excellent power settings. It was worth the €10.

We also bought an accessory set for the desktop. My son wanted a Bluetooth headset but instead we bought a Webcam and regular headphones. For my laptop, which doesn’t have a Webcam incorporated, I bought a Webcam and regular headphones with micro. Both Webcams have incorporated micro, so depending if we are alone or not we can decide if we use or not the headphones.

This shopping was not planned therefore we had to use the credit card. Not something we wanted to do but it was a shame to have a good desktop with no screen.

• Make a list of the clothing items you need. Shirts, lingerie, trousers, skirts, etc.

• Shop alone if you don’t want to get distracted

• Always try your clothes on the store, if possible with a three-way mirror
• Don’t buy clothes that don’t fit you right now. Some people buy already imagine they will have a few pounds in one month.
• If you feel comfortable with other people’s opinion, you may want to ask the salesperson for his/her opinion.
• Buy quality clothes so that they can be used for years.
• If you like a certain pair of trousers or a shirt that looks really good on you, buy two instead of one. Buy different colors to match other clothes you have.
• Follow your list and don’t get distracted by other nice items you don’t need.
