Monogramming
Monogramming is a great way to add a personal touch to a gift or something for you. When you’re monogramming, you should be mindful of a few things; the order and size of the letters, the font, and if you’re monogramming individual items it’s good to differentiate them by first initial.
The order of the letters usually is the woman’s initial on the left, the man’s on the right, and their last name in the middle. The font can be traditional script or calligraphic font, or something modern, and usually appears on the edge or border.
Linen Care
Once you’ve bought your linens, proper care will last you a lifetime. Plain white linens can be washed in a washing machine at 60 degrees, dyed linens at 40 degrees. If you stain a linen, soak it in detergent (not bleach, this will damage the fabric) and do not salt it, this will only set the stain in the fabric. A 2% shrinkage in the linen will occur after the first time you wash it, so it’s a good idea to wash fabrics before you use them or hem them.
If you’re going to iron your linens, always do so when it’s still damp from the wash and with a steam iron. To achieve a crisp look, you can use starch for your fabric; starch can also help repel stains.
