One of the most important things you must consider when looking after your garden is the use of pet safe weed killers. It is necessary to use the best materials and solutions to eradicate unwanted weeds that destroy the beauty of your garden. However, ensure that you are using a weed killer that is not only safe for your children, but also for your pets.
Shopping for Safe Weed Killers
Almost all weed killers are labeled safe for pets. This statement is not entirely true. Some chemicals used in weed killers may contain harmful elements that can kill your pets. When shopping for safe weed killers, check the brands that are recommended and certified by veterinarians, as well as those that are certified by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). It is also recommended that you analyze the products for the following substances: chloroethane, carbon tetrachloride and chloroform. These substances are very dangerous for your pets. These kinds of weed killers are carcinogens that are fatal for any living creature. In addition, most commercial brands of weed killers contain a 2,4-D component that is extremely toxic.
When you read the label of these supposedly safe weed killers, never take what you read at face value. Always ask the store assistants for additional information on the products, as some manufacturers conceal other chemicals involved in the production of the substance. Making this a mandatory aspect of your shopping will prevent you from experiencing any accidents while using these products.
Go Green with Weed Killers
If you prefer not to shell out any cash for commercial safe weed killers that are available at every garden store, you can always go green and create your own weed killers. You do not have to be a certified chemist or scientist to create effective safe weed killers. All your requirements can be found either inside or outside your home.
One of the easiest examples is pouring boiling water on the area infested with weeds. This will clear and kill the weeds and prevent them from spreading. Also, sprinkle salt over the area. This will prevent the weeds from sprouting in the future. However, when sprinkling salt over the weeds, make sure to avoid any plants and flowers you desire to keep. Salt will kill the plants and flowers.
Other household materials that you can use as weed killers include vinegar, sugar and chili peppers. You can spray vinegar on the weeds to eradicate them. The vinegar has a component that prevents weeds from sprouting again. The same goes for sugar. However, combine it with chili peppers to prevent your pets from eating the sugar.
Whatever your preferred method of eradicating weeds, it is always important to use materials that are not harmful to animals and people. Always consider the materials that you are using and choose the best and most effective weed killers for your garden. Since your garden is a place where people and animals enjoy the beauty and relaxation of the greenery, never allow any harmful weed killers to spoil the fun.
