Supermarket in São Paulo

Do research online first
Before you plan your shopping, check your store’s Web site to see what the week’s specials are, if there are any coupons, and what items are seasonal and abundant, and thus good value. Compare prices between different supermarkets in your area.

Plan ahead
Decide what your weekly meals will be in advance so that you can use leftovers from one dinner in the following day’s lunch or dinner. Before shopping, check that you have all the necessary staples (flour, sugar, etc.), and jot down anything else you need for the week. Try making up an easy spreadsheet for a shopping list and food budget, then simply update it each time you head to the store.

Cook batches:
If you have time over the weekend, make large quantities of your favorite dinners. Set aside enough to serve the next night, and freeze additional batches for days when dinner’s a rush. (Freeze promptly so teenagers don’t polish off the extras…) Lasagna and chili are easy to make and freeze.

Use whole grains:
While brown rice and quinoa are delicious and nutritious in their own right, you can also use them as fillers in soups and stews. A handful of brown rice will stretch a pot of Vegetable Sausage Soup. Adding extra cooking broth and some quinoa to Moroccan Slow-Cooked Lamb Stew will make for a hearty dinner with enough leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. With all these great ingredients who needs a colon cleanse product?

Wants versus Needs
Make sure the thing you want to spend your money on is a “need” and not a “want.” Sometimes this can seem like a fine gray line but if you stick to the need list, you will spend less. For instance should you look for home alarm systems or a swimming pool?

Go Generic
When buying food, try some of the generic items. Unless you or your guests are connoisseurs of fine dining, they will not know if the green beans were generic or a top name brand. Once you add some butter, salt, and pepper, no one will know the difference except you – $79 per can versus $33 per can! People do not realize that many generic brands are actually manufactured by name brand companies, just branded with a different name. In fact, companies such as those that make snack foods will have conveyor belts that run side-by-side – one for the name brand and one for the generic brand. This is quite common and the only difference is the label and price.

The Health Benefits of Routine Doctors Appointments

Scheduling regular appointments with your doctor can have significant health benefits. You probably have already heard it somewhere else before, but a major key to maintaining good health is to have a medical doctor examine your body annually to check for anything unusual. Having a primary physician has even more benefits since a long term relationship can be developed. This helps the doctor notice any changes that may occur in our mental and physical health more easily. Just as we get to know ourselves better over time, so does the doctor.

If you aren’t seeing a doctor regularly, my advice would be to find any way possible to get in and see a doctor for at least an annual checkup. Early detection of any medical condition is essential to recovering from it. Illnesses do exist and sometimes they are unavoidable. They don’t have to ruin your life though. Medical technology has become so advanced that fatal illnesses can sometimes result in nothing more than the effects that a common cold may have. Small technologies like toothpaste keep our teeth healthy and our smiles bright! Ibuprofen can eliminate a pounding headache so we can continue to be productive throughout the day. Bigger breakthroughs like Ultrasounds help deliver babies in much healthier status. Heart or liver transplants can give individuals new life. Early detection of any illness by a primary physician is essential to minimizing the effects of it, and experiencing a quicker recovery. In some cases early detection is the difference between living on and passing away.

On our own time, we should always be checking our bodies for unusual changes and assessing our own health to determine if medical assistance might be needed (since we know ourselves better than anyone). However, a medical doctor is obviously necessary to professionally diagnose a health related problem and to determine what treatment is necessary, if any. Regular checkups with a doctor can help uncover health problems we might be at risk of developing. The feedback can help us make smarter decisions from day to day and hopefully avoid any of the issues altogether. In turn, it will have been the routine checkup that was the reason for our outstanding health.

Primary physicians can also refer individuals to specialist when they spot something they are unsure of. A specialist is an expert in their field and can more effectively diagnose and treat a specific disease or illness. You can also get referred to other medical experts in order to fully recover from an illness or treatment. For instance, a primary physician may early detect possible skin cancer. From there, you might get referred to a dermatologist. The dermatologist might diagnose the skin cancer and be able to eliminate the cancerous cells. If the specialist only diagnoses the cancerous cells and does not perform the surgery to eliminate them, they will refer you to someone that can. Some cosmetic firms exist for this very reason. For example, MetropolitanMD is a large cosmetic surgery firm located in Chicago. If you’ve seen a Chicago dermatologist, you might have had experience with them since they can perform the surgery necessary to repair scar tissue, remove skin cells, etc.  They also can perform Chicago breast augmentation.  This is live changing for breast cancer patients that may have had their breasts removed.  The most important thing to know is that a ton of medical technology does exist to get you back on a health track.  Seeing a medical professional regularly to obtain routine physical is an essential step.
