Headaches

Due to my son’s headaches I have been searching online for causes of headaches and migraines. Although most people think that headaches are an adult problem, I was informed by doctors that a lot of children suffer from them.

Headaches in children can have several origins:

  • Stress due to exams or other situation
  • Too much television and computer
  • Infection
  • Too much video games
  • Little rest
  • Etc.

There are also less common reasons like:

  • Brain Infection
  • Tumors
  • Meningitis
  • etc.

I also have headaches and migraines and spending all day (and night) looking at a computer screen doesn’t help at all. I really don’t know how people with programmer jobs can look at the screen hour after hour. At least I know where my headaches are coming from: exposure to the screen, stress and anxiety.

Well, my son has a follow up hospital appointment next week and I am really afraid of the diagnosis. Although there are no other neurological symptoms like nausea or vomiting, the almost constant light headaches are not normal. His eyes were checked and new lenses made. I admit that he watches a little too much television but his headaches pop up when he has to concentrate on something like looking at the blackboard at school or at a exam paper. When he is watching TV that doesn’t happen. Weird…I know.

I always seem to get headaches from looking at the computer too much on days I haven’t eaten much. It’s unfortunate because I have to use one all day for work so I try and take short breaks every hour for using the bathroom or getting some water to lessen the effect.

I hope everything is alright with your son and his headaches are due to a minute problem and that it’s nothing serious.

I’m off Thursday afternoons, so I like to surf around different blogs and read posts that catch my eye. Your post really hit home for me.  I was not sure how I felt about it at first but after reading your post I think I would have to agree.  Just wondering though? What exactly did you mean at the end in the last paragraph?

Have you ever thought about psychological problems? When I was a kid I had headaches and got instantly sick (for real) whenever I had to face an exam at school. The doctors didn’t find anything wrong with me and I wasn’t faking it, or doing it on purpose it was just that at a deep level I was so afraid of exams that my body would reflect that fear by getting in a bad state. I had a few sessions with a therapists and things got better in time. In college I had no problems with exams, and most of them where oral presentations, followed by questions, which are the worst for me. :) Maybe talking to your kid about exams and school might help you find out if he fears anything in particular.

One of the most common reason for headache is tired eyes. Try doing some eye exercise if you feel a headache coming.
