Are moms teaching their children about protecting the environment?

I’m trying to have a healthy and green life. I can’t say each day but each month I try to improve something in the way we live to have a green life.

I think it’s very important to show our kids what we can do to save the environment, save money and therefore have a better life. We are an example for our kids, they pay attention to what we do and say so, if we do our best to have a better life they tend to do the same.

My goal for May is to start composting. Next week I will be attending a meeting in a nearby town where instructions will be given on composting and a composter will be offered to the people attending the meeting. I’m really excited about this new step and my kids are very interested in knowing how it works and how the final product will appear.

What about other moms? Are they teaching their children to be green?

The online community MomsLikeMe.com ran a poll on their site to know if moms are teaching their kids to save the environment. This community was created by moms and it’s a huge source of information for moms, so this poll was very important to realize if moms are aware of the importance of teaching our children to save the environment and if they are working on that.

The results were excellent.  69% of moms think it is important to teach their children about protecting the environment.

What about you? Are you teaching your children?

I studied Agriculture a few years back and I always took my kids to school so that they could help me with my projects. One of them is creating a long bed of compost made of hay and animal poops. It was a messy job but we all learned the steps and the importance of composting. These days, composting is done in pots and big cans. :0

My family and I are also trying to live a healthy and green life. My wife loves to recycle things and now even our kids love to join, too!
There are many ways to teach children to be green, too. At home, my wife taught my kids to recycle old things into toys or any craft. She taught my children to recycle old plastic soda bottles and turn them into things they like. One of my children made a cut-out from the plastic bottle and made a decorative figure. My youngest made a planter out of the soda bottles. I think by teaching our kids this way, they can be aware about living green and at the same time it can develop their learning and creative capabilities.

I think there is no way out and we’ll have to teach our children. Personally, I have a few time for such activity but I am proud of my wife. She is so careful about kids and environment. I have seen her briefing our son about how we can save our environment. I think we should have such activity on our blogs to motivate others.
