If you thought that healthy meals were enough to keep your kids with the right weight, forget it.

According to a report from the Archives of Disease in Childhood magazine, the lack of sleep can be the new cause for the increasing epidemic of infant obesity.

The investigation refers that the less a child sleeps, bigger are the changes of his/her metabolism increasing the obesity, insulin resistance and cardiovascular problems.

  1. That is way interesting. I am was a heavy kid growing up. I wonder if this had anything to do with it. It is amazing how things are interconnected.

  2. Kids do not run and climb trees like we did when we were kids. I remember I was outside all day long.

  3. Lack of sleep can really mess up your life. Most of the bad mistakes and illnesses I’ve made/had can be traced back to being a night creature. ‘An hour before twelve is worth two afterwards’.

  4. I guess an overall comment is that we really need a good night sleep to feel good in the morning not to mention all the side effects lack of sleep can cause to our body and metabolism.

  5. I totally agree with the possibility behind that. I also heard on the TV the other day that skinny people tend to lie in bed 20 minutes longer than the larger and obese people. I must say i am underweight and i crave so much sleep all the time, but the less i get the more weight i put on!

  6. Sleep is like the elixir of life. For young folks, this is when growth hormone is released and you get your most rapid muscle tissue and skeletal building. So i can easily see how lack of sleep can turn into fat kids. These video games that keep ‘em up all night doesn’t help.

  7. That’s a real (and big) problem in this century. I think people should sleep a minimum of 8 hours a day.
