Lighting: an important piece while decorating
My friend E. finally received the key for her new apartment. She has been waiting for this day for so long. I’m so happy for her.
We were “invited” to help her out with the move. She lives in her parent’s house with her two kids and now some furniture, gadgets, rugs, curtains, books, clothes have to be moved to her new place.
The new apartment is naturally illuminated, big windows make the sun enter in all the rooms, well, not all, the two bathrooms have no window so she has to look for some vanity lighting that will illuminate the bathrooms during the day and night.
Her room and her kids rooms will stay with the same furniture and the ceiling lighting they have right now. She wanted to keep her kid’s furniture on her parents house so that when she has to go on business trips her kids can stay there but right now she has no money for a new furniture.
For the living room she hasn’t decided yet what she’s going to put. She likes progress lighting but she also would like to have only a floor lamp near the sofa, she says it will be enough for the living room. For this room she’s buying a new sofa that will only arrive in August.
The corridor already has spots installed and in the kitchen she’s going to use fluorescent lighting to give the kitchen a lot of light. She’s also going to put under cabinet lighting on some zones of the kitchen furniture to lighten up the area where she prepares the meals.
My friend is a very “green” person so she’s trying to use the appropriate lighting for each room in order to save energy and therefore also some money.
Nowadays lighting is an important piece to energy saving. There is a great article about this subject on BBC NEWS called “Lighting the key to energy saving“, it’s worth reading.
