A few hours after writing that post I received a phone call from my cousin telling me that her mother had died this morning. Although in shock, she admits her mother was in great pain and therefore this was the best way out once there was no hope for her.

Rest in Peace Aunt Q.

Serious health conditions of some family members

These last few days I’ve been away from the computer due to a lot of office work and health problems of some family members.

One 93 years old aunt got Gangrene, got her leg amputated and one day after she died. The infection was already in an extreme serious stage and due to the old age the heart wasn’t able to keep beating.

My other 91 years old aunt entered in the hospital with a bronco pneumonia, she’s recovering very well and tomorrow will probably be released from hospital. Although 91, this was the first time she needed to go to the hospital. She was always a very healthy person.

My 76 years old aunt, mother of a very dear cousin entered in the hospital with a bronco pneumonia two weeks ago and is not recovering very well. She already had a few gastric hemorrhages, she’s not responding to antibiotics and most of the time she’s not conscious. The next couple of days will be decisive. My cousin spends a few hours of the day in the hospital near her mother although most of the time, my aunt doesn’t recognize her own daughter. My cousin doesn’t know how long this situation will last and she’s really thinking about a computer rental to be able to work while she’s in the hospital.

Sometimes health conditions can’t be controlled no matter how hard the doctors try. It’s up to us to go or take our relatives to hospital as soon as the symptoms appear. The sooner we go the higher are the changes to recover.

Celebrity Weighing Scale

Do you want to have the weight of your celebrity? Now you can. With this weighing scale you can find out how much each celebrity weights and to see if your weight is near the weight of your favorite star. I really don’t know when this scale was done but I believe celebrities do lose and gain weight over the years (those going through drug rehab will vary for sure), so there is no way to know the exact weight of the celebrity but…you’ll get an approximate weight. On this weighing scale you can find celebrities like Mr. ED, Prince, OLiver Twist, etc. Where is Angelina Jolie????

Have fun!! There is also an Animal version of the weight scale.

Healthy Ways to Cook Vegetables

Tech tipsComputer Tricks

Vegetables are a great source of healthy nutrients that should be preserved when we cook the vegetables. Vegetables that can be eaten in their natural state, preserve all the nutrients, those that are cooked can lose some of the great proprieties they have. The best thing is to cook them in the most healthier way. I found an article that show us Healthy Ways To Cook Vegetables, here they are:

Steaming
Steaming is fast, preserves nutrients, and it works best for fresh and frozen vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, spinach and roots like beets, parsnips, peas and beans. If you don’t have a steaming basket, you can fill a pot with mixed vegetables and add about 1 1/2 inches of unsalted water and cover. Simmer until the vegetables are tender. Check often to make sure that the water doesn’t evaporate. If it gets too low, just add a little more water. Don’t forget to keep the remaining broth for soup or do what I do, pour it in a nice mug and enjoy the warm flavorful broth.

Roasting
Roasting is quick, simple, and is an excellent way for cooking vegetables as it preserves the vitamins, flavors and minerals. In a large bowl, cover sliced vegetables with olive oil. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Place them on a cookie sheet and roast them at 350 degrees until tender.

Stir-Frying
Stir-frying is another very good flavor and color preserving cooking method. Sliced vegetables are put in frying pan covered at bottom with any liquid for cooking such as chicken broth or a broth made from stir-fry seasonings. Constantly stir the vegetables until they are crispy and glossy.

As most of the ways I described are based on waterless cooking as it reduces cooking time, makes cooking easy, easy clean of cooking ware and most of all no loss of nutrient in juices of vegetable giving more flavor to food.

Panning
Vegetables can also be cooked by the steam produced by their own vegetable juices. In a fry pan, add a little olive oil, sliced vegetables and your favorite seasonings. Cover the pan, put it on medium heat, and within 5-8 minutes you’ll have spicy and crispy vegetables. Stir often. Panning works best for carrots, beans, summer squash and shredded cabbage.

Choose the method you prefer and cook your vegetables without losing their nutrients, this will help you have a better life!!

I’ve seen this in a Portuguese magazine and I found it really interesting. Now we can have our DNA code in a beautiful DNA Portrait to put for instance in our living room or bedroom.

The process is very simple, DNA 11 is the site we have to enter and:

  • Go to DNA 11 e-store to begin customizing our art piece.
  • Order our complete DNA collection kit.
  • Collect a cheek cell swab using the swab they provide. It’s painless & effortless.
  • Send the sample to them.

The sample will then go through a process where the DNA image is going to be captured, afterwards the sample is destroyed. After the framing process is finished, the portrait is mailed to us.

There is a feature I find interesting specially for families with children, the DNA code portrait can have 2, 3 or 4 different DNA codes therefore I can make only one portrait with our four DNA codes.

Besides DNA Portraits there are also available Fingertip Portraits and Kiss Portraits.
