Checking Accounts: Make a list of the checks you write

By Laura | Nov 17, 2007

Managing our money is a big issue. Although some people don’t worry too much and have accounts in several banks that sometimes may result in some phone calls from the bank staff saying that their account is red, because they forgot that on that bank they had written a check they don’t remember.

I only have one checking account, money is not much so I control everything in the same account. Once I have some insurances and house loan in that bank, I pay no fees for account maintenance. Most monthly bills like, water, gas, electricity and internet service are paid directly from the account. When I shop or go to a doctor appointment I usually don’t use checks but my debt card.

The are some points you must take into consideration with checking accounts:

  • Make sure you get a fair price for the checks. You can order 10 or 20 (depending on the bank), check the individual cost of each one, usually buying more quantity means less individual cost.
  • Don’t forget to write down the number and amount of the check you are writing so that you can keep track of it and don’t forget that you no longer own that money.
  • When you need to make a payment check if you can do it with debt card once the money immediately will be out of your account.
