Tonsillitis

By Laura | Oct 26, 2007

I haven’t post these last days because I was taking care of my daughter (who is 3 years old) who happens to have a Tonsillitis.

All started with fever, headaches, tummy aches, inability to stand up due to general pain. I thought it was Flu or a general virus but than she started complaining about her throat, that it hurt, I looked inside and I saw the white spots on her tonsils. The medical diagnosis was: Tonsillitis.

What is tonsillitis?
Tonsillitis is a infection of the tonsils that can be caused by a virus or a bacteria. On my daughter’s case it was a bacterial tonsillitis that causes the symptoms I mention before and also swollen and bright red tonsils, nauseas and vomits.

The treatment usually is:

  • pain killers (for pain and fever)
  • hydration
  • rest
  • antibiotics in this particular case that it’s a bacterial tonsillitis.

Of course treatments depends on the tonsillitis type and intensity.

This post is related only to my daughter’s case and can’t be follow as a guide. If you suspect you or a relative have a tonsillitis you should get a doctor appointment because you can also have the same symptoms and have a completely different disease.

Aw! Hugs for both of you. I hope she is feeling better soon. Will she need her tonsils removed?

Thanks Karen. She’s better, the antibiotic and pain killers are already working and she even went to pre-school today.
This is her first tonsillitis and fortunately will be her last. She will go under surgery on November 20th to have her tonsils and adenoids removed because she’s doing sleep apnea meaning there are small periods (seconds) during her sleep when she’s not breathing because both tonsils and adenoids are too big and obstructing the air channel.

I had no idea that there was a bacterial tonsillitis, very good to know. I’m sorry to hear your daughter needs surgery but I’m sure it will provide much needed relief for her once it’s done. (((hugs))) to you both.
