If you are going to travel and you have diabetes there are some points you need to take into consideration:
- You should make the diabetes control the same way you do all year but with some extra care.
- Try to eat more or less the same that you usually eat and drink a lot of liquids to avoid dehydration specially in hot climates.
- It’s important to avoid gastroenteritis (diahrea) and vomits (that can cause hypoglycemia).
- Who gets seasick easily should take some pills to avoid the condition.
- Insulin dependents people should take with them enough quantities of insulin as well as glucose urine and blood reading straps.
- In case you are traveling to extreme climates, you should protect very well the strips and the insulin doses from the sun and heat as well as from negative temperatures (once they can freeze).
- If you are traveling by plane, you should take your medication on an handbag to prevent lost or deterioration and take with you the recipes and medical reports related to this medication.
- The best will be to travel with someone that knows your health condition and what to do in case you have a crisis (specially hypoglycemic)
Enjoy your travel!!
