If you are going on a trip, depending on the destination, the risk to get a infectious disease increases.

Once there are vaccines for most of the diseases related to traveling, it is important that before you leave you search the information (Consulate or family doctor) about the requirements of the destination country.

This will avoid you from having problems when trying to enter a certain country and you will have a more relaxed travel knowing that you are protected from the main infectious diseases,

Harmful Ivy

This beautiful Ivy used to cover one small area of my garden wall.

It was beautiful, green, growing everyday. We thought about keeping it and cover part of the wall, but we were warned that it could case a lot of damage to the wall. Therefore my husband just cut it and the result was the picture on the right. The ink come out and the roots of the Ivy were already breaking the wall and several pieces of concrete come out. Now we have a ugly wall needing painting.

So be aware for Ivy, they can be really beautiful but it can seriously harm your walls.

My personal experience on Heat / Sun.

Regarding the previous post and the question from Cade I decided to write my own experience regarding some of the subjects I already wrote and that I’m going to write about.

* On the Heat subject I have some personal experience specially on Sun Burns. I live 15 minutes from the coast, and therefore from the beaches and sun exposure.
I had a few burns when I was younger. 20 or 25 years ago people were not to much worried about the sun’s harm effects, at least my parents weren’t. We used to go to the beach at any time, take a nap on the sun, and I got a few first degree burns. Once I got a second degree burn on my face and that was awfully painful. I’m very careful with my kids but last year my son and I got first degree burns on our backs and legs and I was really frightened because I wanted to protect my kid from the sun and he still got burned. He spent the most of the time inside the water and we didn’t realise that he was getting burned. Sea Water is fresh but salty and therefore more dangerous, we don’t notice that the sun is burning our skin.

* I can say that I’m a person that is never thirsty. I can spend a few days without drinking water even in Summer. That causes me headaches and fainting sensation.
What I try to do now is during the week on my desk in the office I always have a bottle of water, I try to drink at least 1.5 L. The problem is on weekends, when I “forget” to drink water. I notice the symptoms of the lack of water when I start to feel bad, but then it’s too late.
Drinking water is a necessity and therefore we must create a habit. I’m trying to transmit it to my kids, specially my son, that like me, “forgets”to drink water. Everywhere we go I take bottles of water with me so that they can drink it from time to time.

* A hat is also very important, you can prevent several headaches with an hat.

* Always use a solar protector, I use at least a 40/50 for my kids and myself. We have light skin and my son has blond hair and blue eyes.

With Summer just around the corner, travel and vacations are more frequents. I’m going to post several posts with information you should be aware of before and during the travels.

Heat effect:
The heat can cause several problems: dermic rashes (specially in children and obese individuals), fainting, dehydration, thermic shock, cramps, etc.

As a prevention and in hot climates you should:

  • drink higher amounts of water (in order to urinate every 2 or 3 hours).
  • wear light clothes , soft colours, large sleeves and brim hat, keeping yourself fresh and avoiding sun burns.
  • The daily bath and the use of talcum powder in the more sensitive areas of the skin help reducing the risk of rashes
